SWITCHING UP ANKARA TWO-PIECE

One of the many reason I love Ankara, is it’s versatility and it can be worn all seasons. Here are 4 ways I switched up this Ankara two-piece.

In case you haven’t noticed, I have a theme for Instagram which is the colour wheel theme – as a way to explore what I have stuck in my closet I choose the colour wheel as I tend to find pieces to match my chosen theme. Planning for the theme green and transitioning into green I found this Ankara pair.

One of the many reason I love Ankara, is it’s versatility and it can be worn all seasons.

Because of it versatility, it is styled in different ways. Having an outfit like mine might seem like you have no other way to style but here are 4 ways I styled this pieces.

1. Add an accessories.

Add a pair of accessories to spice up your Ankara outfit. I basically just strapped a belt around my waist to cinch it.

2. Worn as one piece

All I did was to tuck in the peplum jacket and it came off looking like a dress.

3. keep it simple with a basic colour top

Styling basics creates room for versatility. Now , styling ankara – in all its versatile ways to be styled – with basics take it to a whole another level. It completely creates a different look when paired with a basic top or bottom as seen below. I never have styled it wearing this black top, but I did when I was trying out ways to style this outfit.

4. Keep it simple with a basic colour pants.

Most times, I wear the ankara top with this white pant. It gives me that matured lady-look.

DIY STRAP SKATER TOP

I have this feeling that this month brings good and positive energy. My birthday was last month and I regard that as the beginning of the new year. A lot to reflect on and make amend where necessary. My birthday month is always a good month – same applies to May, so I’m hoping and believing God for a better May.

I’ve not been to church this year – reasons best known to me. I had this urge of being in God’s presence, and I planned to wear red (anytime I feel this way, I wear red) for that day. I picked my phone and called my friend that I will be attending church with her. She was surprised because I had said I would never ever go to this particular church. I don’t know God’s plan for me but I’m ready to embrace whatever comes. I’m here in a place I said I will be never be and  it felt good being there.

Never ever say never, circumstances in life changes. You can never tell what you said never to will be what will be doing forever.

So today’s DIY is about my planned strap skater top. One of the easiest DIY so far and took literally no much time.

What you will need:

1 yard of fabric
A pair of scissors
Thread
Needle
A tape

How to:

To cut the top measurement; measure under you armpit with a tape, mine is 33, the radius will be r=33/2π, where π = 3.14 and note the radius measurement. At the joined corner, where all four square meet, measure your radius. This will be the top of the blouse. Just so it’s clear, I’m using the template I used in this post.

Off-the-shoulder Top X Ankara Skater Skirt

My love for ankara fabric and bare shoulder  lately is really overwhelming, so I decided to pair my two favourites together. I wore this skirt with the bralet that I made for Christmas here.

This outfit is me just playing dress-up and I’m so in love with it.

How I made the skater skirt, continue after the jump…

All you’ll need:

  • Fabric
  • Sewing machine
  • Zipper
  • Thread
  • Measuring tape
  • Office pins

First, you cut 2 rectangular pieces for the waist band which will be the waist measurement and add 2inches. Place a stitch witchery on the wrong side of one fabric. Then sew the order rectangle together.

Then for the skater, you fold your fabric twice to form 4 joined square.

To cut the waist measurement; measure your waist around you belly button with a tape, mine is 28, the radius will be r=28/2π, where π = 3.14 and note the radius of your waist measurement. At the joined corner, where all four square meet, measure your waist radius, add 2 inches and pin it.
